New Weapons to Fight against Staphylococcus aureus Skin Infections

چکیده

The treatment of Staphylococcus aureus skin and soft tissue infections faces several challenges, such as the increased incidence antibiotic-resistant strains fact that antibiotics available to treat methicillin-resistant S. present low bioavailability, are not easily metabolized, cause severe secondary effects. Moreover, besides susceptibility pattern isolates detected in vitro, during patient treatment, may never encounter bacteria because hides within biofilms or inside eukaryotic cells. In addition, vascular compromise well other comorbidities impede proper arrival when antibiotic is given parenterally. this manuscript, we revise some more promising strategies improve sensitivity, delivery, including combination with bactericidal nanomaterials, chemical inhibitors, antisense oligonucleotides, lytic enzymes, among others. alternative non-antibiotic-based experimental therapies, delivery antimicrobial peptides, bioactive glass nanoparticles nanocrystalline cellulose, phototherapies, hyperthermia, also reviewed.

Cutaneous Immune Defenses Against Staphylococcus aureus Infections

Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a virulent bacterium that abundantly colonizes inflammatory skin diseases. Since S. aureus infections occur in an impaired skin barrier, it is important to understand the protective mechanism through cutaneous immune responses against S. aureus infections and the interaction with Staphylococcal virulence factors. In this review, we summarize not only the pat...

Staphylococcus aureus colonization in children with community-associated Staphylococcus aureus skin infections and their household contacts.

OBJECTIVES To measure prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus colonization in household contacts of children with acute S aureus skin and soft tissue infections (SSTI), determine risk factors for S aureus colonization in household contacts, and assess anatomic sites of S aureus colonization in patients and household contacts. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING St Louis Children's Hospital Em...

Epicutaneous model of community-acquired Staphylococcus aureus skin infections.

Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most common etiological agents of community-acquired skin and soft tissue infection (SSTI). Although the majority of S. aureus community-acquired SSTIs are uncomplicated and self-clearing in nature, some percentage of these cases progress into life-threatening invasive infections. Current animal models of S. aureus SSTI suffer from two drawbacks: these models...

Methamphetamine Use and Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Skin Infections

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections and methamphetamine use are emerging public health problems. We conducted a case-control investigation to determine risk factors for MRSA skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) in residents of a largely rural southeastern community in the United States. Case-patients were persons >12 years old who had culturable SSTIs; controls had ...

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in Community-acquired Skin Infections

Community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is the most common pathogen among patients with skin and soft tissue infections seeking treatment at a Los Angeles (USA) area emergency department. The proportion caused by MRSA increased from 29% in 2001 to 2002 to 64% in 2003 to 2004. No clinical or historical features reliably predict MRSA etiology.
